Mythical Via Ferrata. At the Glungezer
In 2021, the Alpenverein Hall in Tirol renovated the via ferrata on the Glungezer on the existing route and significantly extended it. In future, the via ferrata will also be used as a teaching, learning and training via ferrata. Various levels of difficulty have been planned in the boulder terrain - from easy ("Category A") to difficult ("Category C"), all requirements are included, such as short and long steep climbs, ridge intersections, chimney passages and a rope bridge.
The via ferrata starts above the Zirbensee and a total ascent time of 2.5 hours is required for the 400-metre difference in altitude. 10 minutes from the exit is the Glungezerhütte, which invites you to stop for a bite to eat!
TIP: If you are planning a tour on the via ferrata, it is advisable to start in the morning. We recommend a start time before 13:00 so that the excursion lasts until the last descent.
Topography and route
In order to do justice to the rich wealth of legends surrounding the Glungezer, prominent points have been named with terms from the legend of the "Glungezer Giant". The trail begins with a climbing exercise plate and then leads to various passages such as the "Balcony of the King", the "Crown of the Princess" or the "Magic Wall". There is a folder for children about the legend of the Glungezer giant in connection with the via ferrata passages.
