Tree trail. Gnadenwald
Between St. Martin's Monastery and St. Michael's Monastery in Gnadenwald, the new tree trail takes you on a journey of discovery: Native trees and shrubs are presented at 15 stations along the secluded edge of the forest. You will learn lots of new things about the trees and shrubs in the Alpine region. Did you know, for example, that the famous "Ötzi" made his bow and arrow from the wood of the woolly snowball 5,300 years ago?
The approximately three-kilometre-long trail at the foot of the Karwendel massif reveals many secrets about the shrubs and trees: the healing powers of berries and leaves that have been passed down for generations, useful wood properties for crafts, historical events relating to various tree species as well as exciting myths and legends.
Botanical information is not neglected either: a Tyrolean illustrator has portrayed the leaves, flowers, fruit stands and fruits of each tree or shrub in great detail. The drawings can be used to view the different vegetation phases of the plants regardless of the season. The altitudes at which the trees and shrubs spread and their flowering times are also shown.
