Feel your heart beat
Discover and experience Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz
Art & culture and culinary delights, the joy of celebration and the dream landscape of the Jura mountains all around: this is Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, the small cultural metropolis between Nuremberg and Regensburg. The old Palatinate town offers experiences that you wouldn't expect at first glance: the unique museum for historic Maybach vehicles, the spectacular Lothar Fischer Museum for one of the most important German sculptors of the post-war period or the concert hall in the Historischer Reitstadel with its renowned acoustics and glamorous concerts. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Neumarkt experienced its heyday under the Counts Palatine, became a royal seat and soon shone in courtly splendor with its palace, riding stables, court church and St. John's parish church. The Upper and Lower Markets, the "parlor" of Neumarkt, are bustling with activity. The heart of Neumarkt beats in the old town, which was rebuilt in exemplary fashion after the war, where people meet to shop, take a leisurely break in the beer gardens and restaurants and soak up the relaxed atmosphere between the town hall, St. John's Minster, modern works of art and pretty pastel-colored town houses. Around the town, the gently rolling landscape of the Upper Palatinate Jura is enchanting and makes you want to go hiking and cycling on certified quality trails. Everyone will discover and experience Neumarkt and its surroundings in their own unique way - and feel their heart beat faster in the process.
Ingolstadt on the Danube
Ingolstadt, located in the heart of Bavaria, has many attractions to offer. History, tradition and modern urban flair come together perfectly here. Within the city walls you will find impressive sights from the time when Ingolstadt was the Bavarian ducal residence: historical treasures such as the New Palace, the Asam Church or the Gothic cathedral. Ingolstadt also holds an important position in Bavarian university history, as witnessed by the Hohe Schule - the seat of the First Bavarian State University - and the Old Anatomy with the German Museum of Medical History. Alongside Prague and Vienna, Ingolstadt was the most important university in Central Europe for centuries. Doctor Frankenstein and the Illuminati are all world-famous and can be traced back to Ingolstadt's university history.
Ingolstadt is also a city of gates, towers and casemates. The city on the Danube has a long tradition as a fortress city and was even expanded into a Bavarian state fortress in the 19th century. Impressive fortifications can be seen everywhere in the cityscape, best of all in Klenzepark, the largest open-air museum of German fortress architecture.
You can enjoy regional and international specialties and traditional Bavarian hospitality in cosy restaurants and rustic beer gardens. The incomparable quality of Bavarian beer is also world-famous - and has its origins in Ingolstadt! It was here in 1516 that Duke Wilhelm IV issued the Bavarian Beer Purity Law, the oldest food law in the world still in force today.
The Audi Forum Ingolstadt with its Audi museum mobile and factory tours offers a world of automobiles and technology. Moving walls and moving exhibits are the highlights of the Audi museum mobile. Its collection tells the story of the automobile and today's AUDI AG. A visit to the Audi plant in Ingolstadt is an incomparable experience - be there up close when a new Audi is born!
Another attraction of Ingolstadt as a shopping city is the Ingolstadt Village outlet shopping center: high-quality designer and fashion brands at greatly reduced prices offer a unique shopping atmosphere. Bargain hunters get their money's worth here, with discount campaigns and events taking place all year round.
Kufstein
The fortress town of Kufstein combines rural charm with urban flair. The fortress is the town's landmark and can be seen from afar. A visit at lunchtime is particularly worthwhile, as the Heldenorgel, the world's largest outdoor organ with 4,948 pipes, can be heard 365 days a year at 12 noon. From April 2019, the fortress will be transformed into an attractive center to mark the Emperor Maximilian Memorial Year. Shopping enthusiasts will find numerous boutiques and brand stores in Kufstein. The traditional Römerhofgasse in the old town invites you to take a stroll, ideally combined with a stop at the traditional Auracher Löchl inn, where the famous Kufsteinlied song originated. A visit to the Riedel Glas show glass blowing workshop is a highlight in both summer and winter. The adjoining store offers a wide range of glassware on 300 square meters.
In summer, the "Kaisergebirge Nature Experience", which can be reached by anyone with the Kufstein Kaiserlift, is particularly attractive. Rustic huts invite you to linger and relax. The idyllically situated Hechtsee lake near the border with Bavaria promises a refreshing dip. It is also the starting point for the wonderful 4-lake hike.
Culture fans have a huge choice in Kufstein: Concerts of every genre in the fortress arena, theater performances in the impressive theater hall of the Kultur Quartier or a traditional square concert in the heart of the town. The cultural highlight in August is the popular Operetta Summer at Kufstein Fortress. Throughout the year, Kufstein offers a colorful potpourri of events such as the "KUlinaria", a culinary journey for connoisseurs and gourmets with a street food market on the Inn promenade or the pop and rock festival "Kufstein unlimited". Medieval times are brought back to life at the Knights' Festival at Kufstein Fortress and the Kufstein Wine Festival is an insider tip for lovers of fine wines. Kufstein, the pearl on the green Inn, pulsates 365 days a year.

Weiler-Simmerberg
The market town of Weiler-Simmerberg with its 6,200 inhabitants is idyllically situated in the border triangle between Austria, Switzerland and Germany, just 25 km north-east of Lake Constance. Lush green meadows, mystical moors, pine-scented forests and crystal-clear white water characterize the landscape around Weiler-Simmerberg and invite you to go hiking.
One highlight is the wild and romantic Hausbachklamm gorge, which begins right on the edge of the village. On the ridges, you can enjoy views of the striking Nagelfluhkette, the Vorarlberg mountains and even the Swiss Säntis massif.
History is written in capital letters in Weiler-Simmerberg. For centuries, the three formerly independent villages of Weiler im Allgäu, Simmerberg and Ellhofen played an important role in the West Allgäu. Weiler im Allgäu as the administrative seat with jurisdiction and later the center of Allgäu Emmental cheese production, Simmerberg as the logistical center of the salt trade, which is still brought to life and made visible today by the "Historical Salt Train" and the salt factory, and Ellhofen as an enclave of the Teutonic Knights and center of soft cheese production in the West Allgäu.
Culinary delights are not neglected today either. With two local breweries, a dairy and a chocolate factory, Weiler-Simmerberg was named one of Bavaria's 100 "places of pleasure" in 2018.
