Matschgerer Museum. Absam
The "Matschgerermuseum" provides an insight into the passion with which the village of Absam has celebrated carnival in Tyrol for a long time. Wooden larvae (masks), Matschgerer garments (carnival costumes), photos from past years and pictures give visitors an impression of the Absam carnival. Up to 200 different larvae (masks), of which the oldest wooden larva is around 200 years old, can be admired in the museum. Awareness of the need to preserve the carnival tradition in the village led the Absamer Matschgerer to build this small but fine museum in 1985. The museum is located in the village's former fire station. In addition to the museum, there is also space for a clubhouse, which is used for gatherings, meetings and club evenings.
