Lake. Achensee
Lake Achensee lies between the Karwendel mountains and the Brandenberg Alps and is often referred to as the "Sea of the Tyroleans" due to its excellent suitability for surfing, kitesurfing and sailing. Recreation-seeking bathers will enjoy the well-maintained lidos in Achenkirch, Maurach and Pertisau. The shallow southern shore in Buchau is ideal for families: here, children can splash around safely in the shallow water, which is up to 22 degrees Celsius in summer.
As with any mountain lake, the water temperature in Lake Achensee is otherwise rather refreshing, usually hovering between twenty and twenty-two degrees near the shore in summer. It is correspondingly lower during the traditional New Year's Eve swim. Lake Achensee has excellent water quality and is also very popular with divers, with visibility of up to ten meters. You can see even further out over the water on a trip on a pedal boat or electric boat or on one of the large Achensee ships.
From the bathing beaches, you can always keep an eye on the beautiful nature of the "Sport & Vitalpark Achensee" and plan your next excursion. Beautiful, managed alpine pastures and other great hiking destinations can be reached on 500 kilometers of varied hiking trails or with the summer mountain railroads on Rofan (Maurach) and Karwendel (Pertisau). Those who prefer to stay close to the water when hiking: Romantic lakeside promenades and walking paths lead around Lake Achensee.
