Climbing gardens. In the Halltal

In the part of the Karwendel mountains that belongs to the Hall - Wattens region, there are numerous climbing gardens with a variety of climbing opportunities. The rocks are good, most of the routes are secured and the sections that are not bolted are easy to secure. The classic routes are around difficulty level 6, but there are also a few easier routes in the 4 and 5 range in Halltal. If you want to get to know the extreme side, you can try the routes that Heinz Zak has presented in the upper 8 and 9 grade range.

Topography of the climbing gardens in Halltal

Climbing in the Halltal and on the Halleranger in the Karwendel

The Halltal, a ten-kilometre-long valley incision, leads from the Inntal into the Karwendel. This wild and romantic gem high above Hall and Absam is deeply carved between the Bettelwurf massif and the green ridge of the Zunterköpfe. The first alpinists came to Halltal centuries after the miners. In the second half of the 19th century, the "Bergler ins Gebirg" (mountain climbers) made their way into the mountains, scaling the wild peaks and ridges out of love and interest in mountaineering, setting up climbing routes and building shelters.

Resounding names tell of the alpine history of the Karwendel. From 1860, great mountaineers and climbers initiated the development of the Karwendel: Hermann von Barth, Otto Ampferer, Hammer, Pock, Wechner, Melzer, Spötl, Gsaller, Dibona, Herzog, Rizzi, Spindler.
After the Second World War, it was Hias Rebitsch, Kuno Rainer, Wastl Mariner, Frenademetz, Hermann Buhl, Erich Kienpointner, Karl Gombocz, Vigl, Klier who wrote climbing history, and the next generation: Felix Kuen, Werner Haim, Walter Spitzenstätter, Oppurg, Hannes Gasser, Otti Widman, Kurt Schoiswohl. Hall and Absam have produced great climbers: Ernst Knapp, Walter Larcher, Erich Kienpointner, Karl Gombocz, Luis Vigl, Fritz and Karl Anker.

The inclined "slabs" are located opposite St. Magdalena and are very suitable for beginners. The "Winklerwand" was completely renovated by Reinhold Scherer and numerous new routes were drilled. The "Durchschlag" climbing garden is located 15 minutes above the Hallerangerhaus on the way to the Lafatscherjoch. And, you can hardly believe it, there is even still room for new tours in the legendary Lafatscher north face. Climbers can still find lines there that are second to none, homogeneous difficulties, super rocks and a fantastic ambience.
