Bonfire Hall. Medieval festival
The legendary Middle Ages also included joyful moments. These are revived at the "Haller Freudenfeuer": From October 4 - 6, 2024, the Haller Freundefeuer will be held again and will become a fixed part of a varied series of events in Hall every two years.
The "bonfires" were the historical forerunners of today's city festivals. They were festivities more or less decreed by the town on special occasions. They actually involved a fire in a wooden barrel, usually in the upper town square. On this occasion, music was played and people danced. Wine was served and confectionery was served. In the period around 1500, the latter was still a specialty.

In addition to the "bonfires" on the Upper Town Square, the three-day event in Hall offers much more: at the tent camp in the Abbey Gardens, various groups of performers recreate everyday life in their authentically constructed tents. They wear costumes and use objects from the period. From 10:00 - 22:00, interested visitors can look around, find out more and marvel at the demonstrations.
A special program has been developed for children. Among other things, they can experience the Middle Ages through the eyes of children in this historical period. Music and dance were very important back then and will also be at the festival: Medieval music groups perform on the stages at the various events. They also make music throughout the old town.
An authentic market is a must in the historic market town of Hall. Goods from today and the past are offered for sale at the market stalls. Craftsmen demonstrate their skills using historical techniques. The best marksman will be sought at the historical shooting range for crossbow shooting. The prize is a yearly traveling shooting chain.
The highlight of the festival is the bonfire. The fire will blaze in a barrel on the upper town square, just like in days gone by. There will be music and dancing around the fire. Together with the dance groups, every guest can then dare to dance around the "Haller Freudenfeuer".
