The Midwife. Film shoot
The historical film “Bergwehen – Die Hebamme” was shot in Bavaria and Tyrol in May 2009. The historic old town of Hall in Tyrol (Rosengasse, Stiftsplatz, Schmiedgasse) in particular was a key filming location for the film. The film is directed by Dagmar Hirtz. The screenplay was written by Peter Probst, based on an idea by Monika Bittl. It is being produced on behalf of ZDF and ORF by Munich-based Roxy Film and the Austrian company SK-Filmproduktion.
Summary of the film
The story follows the strong and independent Rosa Koelbl (Brigitte Hobmeier), who, following her husband’s death, lives in modest circumstances with her sister Anna (Pippa Galli). As a midwife, she earns a living for the family. She is very popular with the women because of her warm nature and expertise. To the men, however – particularly the doctors – she is a thorn in their side. Caesarean sections are becoming increasingly common in medicine, though they sometimes have fatal consequences for both mother and child. Rosa speaks out strongly against them and helps women to give birth naturally.
