Thaurer Schlossrunde. Geocaching

The Romedikirchl church on this idyllic spot in Thaur is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul and St. Romedius. The church plays a very special role, especially at Easter. This is where the palm donkey procession leads, a tradition that has been cherished in Thaur for more than 200 years. The once proud castle complex is located at 820 meters above sea level and has fallen into ruin over the centuries. With an area of around 3000 m², Thaur Castle is one of the most extensive fortifications in the Inn Valley. However, only sparse remains of the former castle have survived due to severe decay, making it difficult to reconstruct the original structure.
In 1939, the castle was placed under a preservation order. The current castle ruins were restored and scientifically examined from 2003. Since 2001, the castle ruins have provided the stage set for the Thaurer Schlossspiele.
